When thinking about digital projects, most people immediately think of websites, content, online advertising and campaigns, social media, events, and videos. While this of course true, a digital project is much more than that. In today's world, any business transformation in a company touches the digital world in how it interacts with employees, suppliers, customers, government agencies, business partners.
Two key things distinguish digital projects from traditional projects: the nature of the change – the underlying technologies and methods; and the pace of change.
Understanding these differences and embracing the higher expectation of digital project teams, from digital PMs, to practitioners, to project sponsors, will help assure successful outcomes and to understand the roles and expectations between the digital project manager and the executive sponsor.
